About:

The coffee is categorized into specialty based on cupping scores. Farmers deliver the coffee to the societies that carry out wet processing. After drying, the societies deliver the coffee to the dry Mills before it's bagged and brought to our warehouses for roasting and green bean sale.

Flavor Profile:

At first sip, the dominant notes are robust and bold but very smooth. The intrinsic brightness of Arabica is mellowed, giving way to a rich, molasses-like sweetness accompanied by nuances of dried fruits, especially figs and dates.

The finish is long, warm, and slightly spicy, reminiscent of cinnamon and clove, leaving a lingering embrace on the palate.

Process:

The beans are wet-processed.

Region:

Nyeri County in Central Kenya is renowned for its high-quality coffee beans, thanks to its conducive climate and altitude. Here is some information on the attitude and precipitation pattern in the region.

1. Altitude:

  • Nyeri County is situated on the slopes of Mount Kenya, and the coffee from this region typically grows at an altitude ranging from about 1,200 to 2,300 meters above sea level.
  • The high altitude, combined with the cool temperatures on the mountain slopes, contributes to the coffee’s dense growing environment, which is crucial for its rich flavors and aroma.

2. Rainfall:

  • The region experiences two main rainy seasons due to its equatorial location: the long rains occur from March to May, and the short rains are from October to December.
  • The average annual rainfall in Nyeri County varies, but it generally receives adequate rainfall ranging from 1,200 to 1,500 millimeters annually, providing the necessary moisture for coffee plants.
  • The rainfall pattern, together with the area’s fertile volcanic soils, makes the region ideal for cultivating coffee.

3. Temperature:

  • The temperatures in Nyeri County are relatively moderate due to its high altitude, with average temperatures ranging from 12°C (54°F) to 26°C (79°F) annually. This temperature range is quite favorable for coffee cultivation.

The coffee from Nyeri County is often characterized by bright acidity, complex flavors, and a full body, attributed to the region’s high altitude, rainfall patterns, and temperature.
